A new Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege update is apparently doing bad things.
Hundreds of reports have poured in during the past 24 hours following the publication of a new Rainbow Six Siege update on PS4. Players are saying that after installing the update and accessing their friends list the friends list breaks causing a bunch of errors that make playing games downright unplayable. Even worse, some have found that their PS4 hard drive has been corrupted.

Ubisoft says to do the following depending on your situation:
Team is working on it. Hang tight and we'll have a more detailed update as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.
If you feel your console may have been "bricked" please reach out to me as soon as possible. We would like to try some troubleshooting and see if we can get you back up and running again.
If not, but still experiencing the friends list/party system issues, please try running a few (3-5) matches of Siege and see if the issue resolves itself. This has proven to be a somewhat successful workaround and we would want to hear from you if it works out in your case.
Social media is a mix out outrage, speculation, and some funny comments, including the following:
Rainbow Six Siege is one of the most popular online shooters with an active player base of over 100,000 resulting in this issue affecting a ton of people.

Before updates can be published on PS4 they are subject to a strict approval process by Sony. In 99% of cases major problems like this are found prior to publish, but this time around things didn't go so well. It'll be interesting to see how Sony handles the situation if the PS4s are unable to be restored.
